Fact: according to Google, the query for “high ticket affiliate marketing” has increased by more than 1600% over the past 12 months, while the search for “affiliate marketing salary” has risen by 250%. These incontestable trends accurately demonstrate a growing interest not just in making money with affiliate marketing – but in making a lot of money.

However, what many beginners ask themselves is not “does affiliate marketing really make money” but instead “how much do affiliate marketers make?” Or even better: “how much can I make as an affiliate marketer?”

Pretty much any blog you’ll read about affiliate marketing income will tell you that more than 80% of brands are now deploying affiliate marketing for their promotions. Obviously, there is a lot of money to be made as an affiliate in 2021.

 

THE “AVERAGE” AFFILIATE MARKETER

Let’s face it, affiliate marketing is a numbers business. Everything is based on statistics and revenue, so of course potential revenue is a point of contention. If you’ve done any kind of research, you will have read the success stories like how Tom Dupuis’s annual affiliate income went from $20k to $150k over the span of a few years. But maybe you have also seen the confused forum posts of newly-active affiliates struggling to turn a profit.

As you can see, the gap between a few dollars per day and a huge annual income is quite large. So when you read in reports that the average affiliate income is $20-30k per year, it is just that – an average.

Similarly, it is just an average when BloggingX estimates that affiliate marketers achieve an average conversion rate of between 1% and 5%. Some affiliates make excellent returns on investment on lower than 1% conversion rate, and others are dissatisfied with anything below 25%. All we can say for certain is that you don’t know what will work for you until you try!

 

IT TAKES EFFORT

Making that monthly, weekly, or even daily $20k doesn’t come easy. What some beginners might not realize is that large-scale affiliate marketing requires time, work, and money. Whether you are actively buying push traffic, spending sums on data for email or SMS, or advertising on a blog for passive income, investment is always involved.

If you’re looking to score a quick buck, it’s possible – but to get to the TOP, you need to invest Time, continue to Optimize, and show Patience.

That means learning as much as you can about your traffic source, finding your vertical and niche, trying different offers to identify the best one, and scaling top performers. This, of course, requires some financial investment on your part, and you need to be willing to spend in order to earn more. Taking these steps along the way will pay off in long-term ROI!

 

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Whether you are working with an advertiser or a network, there are some things to consider if you want to make money.

If you are starting out as a beginner, it may be beneficial to start with something that has an easy conversion point. The lower conversion point usually also comes with a lower payout, but even payouts of less than €1 can be profitable if your traffic is cheap enough.

The next is whether the offer, regardless of your niche, actually converts. You will not be making any commission if what you are sending traffic to simply doesn’t work. Sadly, those offers are out there. If you are not sure of an offer, it is always good to ask your AM for a performance indication.

Once you’ve found something you’re confident in, you should consider what the budget is. An offer may convert well and be profitable, but if there is no budget for large volumes of traffic, it might not be worth your time.

Finally, remember to continue to test and compare. Split testing is key to affiliate marketing. This can be the same offer with a different angle, creative, or data set, or it could be a different product or offer with the same creatives and data that you know already works. This step requires patience and may not always be profitable while you’re at it, but it’s essential if you want to keep growing!
